I met Kevin Lane the very first month I moved to our temporary home in North Carolina. We both attended a community networking event at a local bar, put together by the WIN (Women in Networking) chapter in Leland, NC. We had a great conversation but to be quite frank, I never thought I’d see or hear from Kevin again. This is the story of Kevin, and how CXL Transport came to be.

The evening we met, Kevin was passionate about his idea to bring additional transportation services to the area. Although the population has exploded in the greater Wilmington, NC area, the public and private transportation options have not kept up. In my quick judgement, his market research felt preliminary and his game plan not flushed out so when began asking me about business cards I pushed back on his enthusiasm. I told him he wasn’t ready. I told him to pump the brakes, get further with his business plan and have his services and demographics solidified because only then would his business cards align with his company. I felt strongly and continue to feel strongly about that sentiment but I also realized that I was stomping on the joy of an enthusiastic entrepreneur. I felt guilty the next day but couldn’t reach out to apologize… I didn’t have his business card.

Saying that I was shocked would be an understatement when I received a call from Kevin the following month. He asked if I remembered him, of course I remembered him, and proceeded to share with me all the updates he has accomplished. He was on fire; determined to get his business off the ground and inquiring about how we could work together.

We kicked off almost immediately, focusing on a website which he could include on that aforementioned business card, and hit the ground running. I’m excited to share that Kevin launched his business and his website last week!
