Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a BIG deal for your business website. Yet, before you dive into all the how-to build-your-SEO-blogs and the what-if-you-aren't-technologically-savvy-blogs and into the forever-depending-rabbit-hole of SEO terror; take a step back, a deep breath, and take care of the 3 simple(ish) and quite solid steps to improve your SEO.

1. Claim or Create Your Google Listing

Google is king of the search engines in the United States. Google ranks websites according to algorithms that are changing all the time and while I can't tell you exactly what they are looking for (,btw even Google insiders can't tell you exactly what they look for,) what I can tell you is that claiming your google listing will help potential customers find your business in two ways. First, once your google listing is claimed, your business information will show up on the right side of chrome browsers, showing your hours, address, reviews and even a button to link to your site. The second positive impact will be a bump in your ranking in organic (not paid), local (potential customers searching while near your business) search results.

2. Share Detailed Information about Your Service or Products on Your Site

If you thought including your business information, services, and team members on your site was enough; consider your competition. Let's use a dog boutique as an example. Say there are 3 dog retail boutiques within your city. If all 3 have websites, how will google determine who's site is best to show higher? One factor is related content to a search. If 1 of the sites has more information that more closely resembles what people are searching for than they are more likely to rank higher. You can provide more words that potential customers are searching for by providing more information in your product listings. Also, including supplemental details to the brands you carry can provide opportunities for Google to match keywords.

3. Create Content on a Regular Basis

Writing a blog or adding content to your site shows Google that your site is current and up to date. Also, adding content provides opportunities to add words or phrases that your potential customers are searching for. For example, if it is the holiday season, you could share a blog about the 10 best products you feature for dog lovers. Not only will this give you the opportunity to showcase your products, your website can also show up in local search results for holiday gifting ideas or whatever else you are sharing. Also, it is commonly accepted that sharing regular content will affect your ranking positively. So, if you are setting aside time to post regularly, plan to do so on the same day each week and your efforts will be rewarded.

Can you do more? Of course you can. But remember what you got into business for and if this isn't your forte, call a professional!
